Have you ever thought of typing a special character instead of looking for it in a list of hundreds of hundreds of characters?
Type the formula in LibreOffice (3.3.4) Calc.
=UNICHAR(HEX2DEC(A1))

Search for the Unicode hex value of the character.

Look for that hex value.

Get your special character by typing the Unicode hex value, e.g. 2103 means ℃. You can then copy and paste the character as you like.
